Duvarlar-Mauern-Walls, is a trilingual (Turkish, German, English) documentary about a moment in the recent history of the largest minority in re-unified, post-Wall Berlin, the immigrant community from Turkey, as witnessed by a Turkish filmmaker from the United States. In the aftermath of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the unification of the two Germanys, 1991 was the year when anti-foreigner violence in Germany was becoming too visible to ignore. 1991 was also the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the migration from Turkey to Germany. In this film, immigrants from Turkey talk about their past, present, and possible future, reflecting on what the opening of the Wall and the unification of the two Germanys meant for them and how increasing hostilities are affecting their sense of belonging in the new Germany. Duvarlar-Mauern-Walls, is the view from the periphery by a filmmaker who is simultaneously an insider and an outsider.

"Duvarlar-Mauern-Walls" ist ein dreisprachiger Dokumentarfilm (türkisch, deutsch und englisch), der eine Periode der jüngsten Geschichte betreffend die größte in Berlin lebende Minderheit nach der Wiedervereinigung darstellt : die türkische immigrierte Gemeinschaft wird hier von einem türkischen Filmemacher von Amerika aus dargestellt. In der Zeit nach dem Mauerfall und der deutschen Wiedervereinigung zichnete sich insbesonderedas Jahr 1991 als ein Jahr aus, in dem sich die Xenophobie und die Gewalt verstärkte, eine solche Gewalt, das man vor ihr nicht mehr die Augen schließen konnte. 1991 ist auch das Jahr des dreißigsten Gaburtstags vom Anfang der türkischen Einwanderung nach Deutschland. In diesem Film sprechen immigrierte Türken über ihre Vergangeheit und ihre Gegenwart und wie sie sich ihre Zukunft in Deutschland vorstellen. Sie stellen sich Fragen über die Folgen des Mauerfalls und der ihr folgenden Wiedervereinigung und auch über diese feindlichen Taten die sich natürlich auf ihre Integration in das neue Deutschland auswirken.

‘Duvarlar-Mauern-Walls’, birleşik, ‘duvar sonrası’ Berlin’in en kalabalık azınlığı olan göçmen Türkiyeli toplumun yakın tarihindeki bir anı konu alan, Amerika’dan gelen Türkiyeli bir sinemacının yaptığı üç dilli (Türkçe, Almanca, İngilizce) bir belgeseldir. Berlin duvarının yıkılması ve iki Almanya’nın birleşmesinden sonra, 1991 yılı Almanya’da yabancılara yöneltilen saldırıların artık gözardı edilemeyecek boyutlara ulaştığı bir yıldı. 1991, aynı zamanda da Türkiyelilerin Almanya’ya göçünün başlamasının 30. yılıydı. Bu filmde Türkiyeli göçmenler, geçmişleri, bugünleri ve gelecekleri, duvarın yıkılmasının ve Almanya’nın birleşmesinin onlar için ne anlama geldiği, artan saldırılar karşısında Almanya’ya aidiyet duygularını nasıl etkilediği konularında konuşuyorlar. ‘Duvarlar-Mauern-Walls’ hem içeriden, hem de dışarıdan biri olan bir sinemacının, durumun Türkiyeli azınlık açısından nasıl göründüğünü yansıtmasıdır.

"Duvarlar-Mauern-Walls" est un documentaire trilingue (turc, allemand, anglais) qui retrace une période de l'histoire récente de la plus grande minorité vivant dans le Berlin post-Réunification : la communauté immigrée turque, observée ici depuis les Etats-Unis par un cinéaste turc. Dans la période qui a suivi la chute du Mur de Berlin et la Réunification allemande, l'année 1991 a été caractérisée par un renforcement de la violence xénophobe en Allemagne, une violence sur laquelle il n'était plus question de fermer les yeux. 1991 marquait aussi le trentième anniversaire des débuts de l'immigration turque en Allemagne. Dans ce film, des Turcs immigrés parlent de leur passé, de leur présent et du futur qu'ils envisagent, s'interrogent sur les conséquences de la chute du Mur et de la réunification qui a suivi, ainsi que sur ces actes d'hostilité qui affectent leur intégration dans la nouvelle Allemagne.
